1. Who we are

Shadow Stories is a lateral thinking mystery game. You can play solo (with AI-assisted questions) or in a group (offline, with a narrator). For privacy questions: contact@shadowstories.app.

2. Data we collect

No account is required. We only collect what is needed to operate the service:

• Solo mode questions and answers — Your questions and conversation history are sent to our servers to generate AI responses and evaluate your final answer.
• Language and filter preferences — Used to display suitable stories.
• Technical data — Request metadata (IP address, timestamp) for security, rate limiting, and abuse prevention.

3. Data stored on your device

This data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers:

• In-progress solo games (questions, remaining attempts, progress)
• Solo mode daily limit counter
• Language preference
• Cached story lists and details for offline viewing

You can clear this data at any time in settings (in-progress games, story cache, or full reset).

4. Group mode

In group mode, the app only displays story content. Questions are asked aloud between players. No group chat, score, or conversation is stored on our servers.

5. Third-party services

Solo mode relies on an AI provider (OpenAI) to answer yes / no / out of scope and evaluate final answers. Story context and your text are transmitted only to provide this feature. We do not sell your data.

6. Purposes of processing

• Operate solo mode and AI responses
• Provide stories in your chosen language
• Protect the service against abuse (request limits)
• Ensure reliability and security

7. Data retention

Local game data remains on your device until deleted or the app is uninstalled. Server-side AI requests are processed to answer each request; we do not use them for advertising profiling. Technical logs, if any, are kept only as long as needed for security and operations.

8. Children

The app includes mystery themes that may not be suitable for young children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). Contact us if you believe a child has submitted data to us.

9. Your rights

Depending on your country, you may have rights of access, rectification, or deletion. Most game data is local and can be cleared in the app. For other requests: contact@shadowstories.app.

10. International transfers

If you use the app outside the country where our servers or AI providers are hosted, your data may be processed there with safeguards required by applicable law.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top indicates the latest version. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
